FAQ¶
I need help! Who do I contact?¶
If you are having difficulties or simply need more information, you can contact GARRbox support from the Contacts item on the Homepage.
I am a user, how can I use the service?¶
To register for GARRbox your organisation must have subscribed to the service. Registration is done with the IDEM credentials provided by your organisation. After the first federated access it is possible to create an account with your username and password.
Who can request the service?¶
The service can only be requested by organisations connected to the GARR network that adhere to the IDEM digital identity Federation. Users belonging to organisations that have subscribed to the contract can register and access GARRbox.
If my organisation has not yet subscribed to the service, what can I do?¶
If your organisation has not yet activated the GARRbox service, you can fill in the interest registration form.
I am an organisation, how do I subscribe to the service?¶
To request the service you can fill in the form by selecting the subject "subscription request for my organisation". Once the possession of the necessary requirements has been verified, the GARRbox service team will provide the information to proceed with the subscription of the contract.
What are the costs of the service?¶
GARRbox can be requested in two different modes: FIXED Provides for the use of the service for a set number of users to whom a fixed personal space quota (from 20 to 100 GB) is assigned. In this mode user authorisation is managed by GARR on behalf of the organisation. FLEX. Provides for the purchase of a predefined storage space quota to be distributed among a maximum number of users. The assignment of quotas and the management of authorisations is handled by the subscribing organisation. To learn about the costs of the different solutions and request a quote you can fill in the form.
Where is my data?¶
User data is hosted exclusively in Italy, at GARR data centres.
How can I get more personal space?¶
You can request more space from the Personal panel. The request will be forwarded to your organisation's contacts. They will decide how much space to assign. By selecting "More Information" you can get in direct contact with your contacts.
Is periodic backup of data performed?¶
Data is protected through multiple replication. As described in the terms of use, there is no periodic backup of user data. It is possible that the GARRbox service team makes service backups in preparation for extraordinary maintenance operations.
Are unilateral changes to the service possible?¶
No. Resources are guaranteed over time and no unilateral changes to agreements are planned. Users have full availability of data at any time and there is no risk of lock-in.
Why do I need GARRbox credentials in addition to IDEM ones?¶
GARRbox uses federated IDEM identity credentials for the most sensitive actions. To enable the use of desktop and mobile applications, however, it is necessary to have GARRbox credentials in order to conveniently access files from the browser, desktop client, tablet, smartphone.
I have a large amount of data, can I upload it to GARRbox?¶
Yes. On GARRbox it is possible to upload many large files (up to the exhaustion of your personal space quota) from the browser and from clients. In the case of uploading large files, or nested folders with many files, the use of desktop clients is strongly recommended, in order to optimise the upload without risking partial uploads in the event of a momentary connection interruption.
I receive synchronisation errors / when I download a file I get an error. What do I do?¶
The problem is very rare but it can happen. Usually the cause of this annoying phenomenon is a misalignment between the local state of the clients and the central state of the server. Send a message via the Contacts item on the Homepage, we will apply the data alignment procedures. This is usually sufficient to resolve the issue.
How can I request the export of my data?¶
The export of data following the deactivation of one's account is only possible after verification of identity and ownership of the data stored by the service, involving the GARR DPO. Upon verification that the privacy regulation compliance criteria are met, the user's data will be compressed into an archive (zip or tgz) and sent to the user via the Filesender service. The download will only be possible upon IDEM authentication on Filesender.
I accidentally deleted a file. How can I recover it?¶
At the bottom left, in the column menu of the file screen, there is the "Trash" item. From there it will be possible to see the files deleted in the last 30 days, select, and restore what you want.
